Porn’s New Key Words: Feminist Porn Conference 2014 KeyNote

gratitude to all the people who made this key note and it’s documentation possible. tobi hill-meyer filmed this at great risk!

I can see how doing a “keynote” at such a young age could be a set-up for disaster, but all in all I think some of these ideas make sense to me while others need further consideration. It’s a moment in time where I felt like those using the “ethical porn” and “feminist porn” labels weren’t really looking at intersectional feminist theories being brought forward by contemporary feminist thinkers. Instead, it felt sheltered. In an earlier workshop I witnessed a lot of racism and whorephobia and it let me to restructure my words to bring awareness to how few people of color were being highlighted in the conference. This keynote pissed a lot of people off and all I can say is, I stand by it now more than ever. Even in all of it’s messiness, it gave voice to a few folks, like myself, who were feeling like the ideas behind feminist porn was getting too mainstreamed by white cis women. Even if I couldn’t say it like that in 2014, I think perhaps it resonated with porn viewers around the world, who turned my keynote into a Tumblr meme by Tieara Myers.
