Queerly Beloved started 4 years ago when throwing a party in my backyard with a few performances, some great DJs, and some Jell-O shots seemed like way more fun then going to any of the mainstream “Pride” parties in San Francisco.

Something about the normal “GLBT” community has always made me feel alienated – or worse, bored. Bud Light Beer Gardens and Work Out Protein Powder and Lesbian Cruise Ships don’t really fit my sexual orientation, my place in the world, or my relationship to being an out and proud queer person. I don’t like being pandered to as a statistic, nor do I see corporate sponsorships as empowering – if anything I find them exploitive and oppressive.

I have always loved Pride Week in San Francisco though, don’t get me wrong. The long sunburnt days at Delores Park, being a supportive friend or lover at the Trans March, playing out my inner dykeyness at the Dyke March – but as someone who has never used the terms “trans” or “dyke” – there still wasn’t anything that celebrated my queerness – genderqueer, nongendered, punky subversive, pansexual, kinkyfreaky, cock-loving, pussy-eating queer goodness.

So in pure Courtney form, I decided to Do It Myself. And that’s why Queerly Beloved exists – as a haven for the hedonistic, label-scratching, subversive queers who can’t be defined by the over-produced, mass produced Pride(tm) events. All genders are welcome – and I’m sure that even people who do fit in to the GLBT will have fun at the party, if not a total mind-blowing fun-drenched blast!

And fuck, has it been fun. In years past, the performances, DJs, and crowd have been incredible. I’ve had people come up to me and say “THIS IS MY FAVORITE PARTY OF THE YEAR” – and this year, our host El Rio has finally proclaimed it “El Rio’s Official Pride Party,” which can only mean great things for this event in the years to come.

THIS YEAR is going to be SO FUCKING GOOD. I have asked my lifelong “BFF” (sounds silly saying that at my age!) Jenna Riot to help me host the party and be our headlining celebrity DJ for the event. She’s AMAZING! Also, Feminist Porn Award HeartThrob winner James Darling will be gracing the stage to do a sexy solo boylesque stripper set (or maybe he will surprise us with something totally different!) and the Queen of Indie Burlesque, the young up and coming star Dorian Faust will also be dancing for us.

The big news? I will be making my way back up on stage for the first time in San Francisco, and the first time in 7 years. I wont get into the details of my act, but be prepared for a messy, slippery, sexy triumphant return to live performance. I am SO ready, my friends!

Pride is all about the sun shining down on us, and every year, my back-patio daytime dance party seems to be bigger, better, and brighter… I look forward to it all year long!

The Feminist Porn Awards are a screening and awards gala that happen every year in April, where awards like “Most Diverse Cast,” “Heart Throb of the Year,” and “Best Trans Film” are presented to film-makers and stars that have feminist sensibilities in the adult industry, like Tristan Taormino, Nica Noelle, Shine Louise Houston, and me. (You know, the good ones! *wink*)

What makes a movie a Feminist Porn Award winner?

In order to be considered for a Feminist Porn Award, the movie/short/website/whatever!  must meet at least one of the following criteria:

1)  A woman had a hand in the production, writing, direction, etc. of the work.

2)  It depicts genuine female pleasure

3)  It expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film and challenges stereotypes that are often found in mainstream porn.

And of course, it has to be hot!

Overall, Feminist Porn Award winners tend to show movies that consider a female viewer from start to finish.  This means that you are more likely to see active desire and consent, real orgasms, and women taking control of their own fantasies (even when that fantasy is to hand over that control).

My personal beliefs are that identifying as a feminist is not a pre-requisite for making great porn that all kinds of people can enjoy, but it certainly does help. I myself identify as a “feminist of my own invention.”

A question that’s been posed to me many, many times:

I have recently decided that I am a feminist of my own invention. My father, a single parent, unknowingly taught me to live in the world free of self-imposed gender roles while figuring out how to survive as a broke-but-resourceful family of two. I went to college and have two degrees, however – I spent none of that academic time on feminist literature, theory, or critique. I spent it taking photographs and immersing myself in the queer performance art and music thriving in my home town Olympia Washington. I am steeped in Riot Grrrl culture and see my feminist involvement in porn much like Kathleen Hanna confronted the punk music scene in the 1990’s. I have become a force to be reckoned with inside of a boy’s club. I’ve created my own scene, my own audience, my own talent pool to collaborate with – instead of allowing myself to be marginalized and desensitized by the mainstream male gaze. At the same time, I feel like a lot of feminist thought is severely problematic. I believe trans women are women and should be included, without question, in feminist ideology and issues. I am strongly against woman-only spaces that exclude trans women. I believe that sex workers, including porn performers and film-makers, live valid lives, have valid jobs, and should be equally protected under the same laws that protect everyone else from rape, murder, theft, and abuse.  Also I believe that men can be feminist and should be part of the task forces that confront issues like rape, birth control, and oppression. My anti-oppression obsessions leave me on the outside of feminism, even and especially outside of today’s radical feminism, and that is why I say, I am a feminist of my own invention. A humanist. A punk. A queer.    My porn reflects my beliefs, simply put.

Live Sex Show: TROUBLEfilm’s debut DVD release, starring Jiz Lee and Nina Hartley in one of the most importance feminist porn scenes ever if I do say so myself! If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll want to get the DVD and watch it – but good luck finding it, because due to the awesome fisting in this scene, the whole movie has been rejected from almost every mainstream porn store and VOD site I’ve sent it to! Of course, Good For Her has it.

NoFauxxx.Com: My darling baby turned ten this year, and that’s why I have big hopes for this site winning. It totally deserves a moment in the spotlight. Fucking Different XXX: I am super excited to be a part of this incredible film, put together by the folks at the Berlin Porn Film Festival and featuring some of queer porn’s absolute best directors from around the world. I can’t tell you how giddy and childish I became when I got to stand next to Bruce La Bruce and receive a standing ovation for being in this film with my short, Anchor Anatomic. Pretty giddy.

i hosted an informal gathering at the Lexington Club last night for Tristan Taormino and her new book Take Me There (a trans and genderqueer erotic anthology) and of course, a ton of porn stars, sex geeks, writers, and muses showed up. we screened Live Sex Show and Adrianna’s Dangerous Mind on the Lexington’s big screen television, ate cupcakes, and talked about gender and porn. There were quite a few trans women there and I was excited to see them in the Lexington Club, a place that has felt pretty devoid of trans femininity in the past 6 years that I’ve been going there. There were also a lot of genderqueer (a gender identity outside of the male/female gender binary and heteronormativity) folks, and something else you don’t see at the Lexington every day – queer men making out on the dance floor. (You know who you are!!!). Throughout the course of the party, I just kept looking around at everybody there and feeling overwhelmingly grateful for all of these different kinds of ways we all live our lives. Thinking about how small my community is compared to the rest of the “GLBT” umbrella – a term I’ve long felt disconnected from, as I think we all do as queer-identified “outsiders.” Thinking about how important it is that we keep coming together in these kinds of ways, at all-gender parties. I know a lot of people find safety and comfort in “women only spaces” or “men only spaces.” I find myself the safest and most comfortable in all-gender spaces, or better yet, non-gendered spaces entirely.  And you know where I, perhaps contradictingly and for sure serendipitously, always seem to find the best non-gendered safe spaces? At porn parties.

Seven Minutes In Heaven: Coming Out!

I am so, so, so honored to have had my film Seven Minutes In Heaven: Coming Out nominated for it’s hardcore queer gonzo sexiness in the “Best Pro-Am Release” category. I see “Pro-Am” as a really wonderful niche in porn, full of indie porn stars and super hot amateurs working together to make delicious sex scenes.

Seven Minutes In Heaven: Coming Out is the first of my Seven Minutes In Heaven series, where I cast seven queer-identified individuals for their overall sexiness, stamina, and variety – and let them create their own couplings and scenes for an entire day. Nothing is scripted, nothing is set up, and nothing is planned.

Puck Goodfellow, who stars in Seven Minutes in Heaven: Coming Out, as well as Seven Minutes in Heaven 2: Tender Hearted, Speakeasy, and my porn sites No Fauxxx and QueerPornTV – happens to be the only transman starring in any AVN-nominated film this year (aside from Crash Pad Series’ incredible nomination for Best Alternative Website), and my film Seven Minutes In Heaven: Coming Out is the only “Queer Porn” film nominated… which brings me to my contemplations…

I contemplate my space – our space – in the mainstream world. Do we really need it? While they tip their hats to the indie folks because we deserve it, and appreciate it, they still haven’t quite given us the time of day. It’s very rare that indie film-makers make it to the Oscars, and it’s understandable – the films are seen by less people, they have smaller budgets, and like me – aren’t backed by a team of powerful producers, rich advertisers, or great distribution.

Queer Porn is busting forward at record speeds, spilling out new films, new websites, new performances, new projects, new everything, faster than they are able to follow. It’s not their fight or focus – and if they were to truly include us queers, they would have a whole lot of work to do breaking down gender barriers and the entire niche system of porn. It’s OK – they don’t have to.

The internet has created this wealthy, wonderful world for queer identified folks to find porn, to find community, to find art, music, friends, and support. I’m excited to go play with the big kids in Vegas in January (I actually really love my friends involved in sex toy companies, porn companies, performing, and press in the “mainstream world”) – but I am even more excited about the diverse, incredible, sexy, brilliant, and resilliant community that brought me there, that inspires me, and feeds me knowledge and love. This community rocks, and deserves it’s own awards show we’re that good!

My mind was blown this morning. I was recently introduced to Kelly Shibari last week after watching Carlos Batt’s “Dangerous Curves” trailer. She is definately hot and smart and has no problem proving so on her many websites and twitter account, whish is seriously blowing up today after her annoucement of the launch of PaddedKink.Com – an all plus size bdsm/kink porn site.

This is literally the first, or at least best, of it’s kind. I read a line in the video trailer that really spoke to me and fucking rocked my world: “The Kink sites wont do it, the Porn sites don’t know how” – and that’s so fucking true. I can’t tell you how many times I have applied for “The Armory” as a model and have never even received a reply. It’s not because I’m not hot or experienced, either.

This basically reminds me of when and why I started NoFauxxx.Com in 2002. I kept getting pissed off that sexy-as-all-hell (and not in that “everybody’s beautiful” kind of way either) fat girls were applying for alt porn sites like s/g and getting burned. No Fauxxx was, for the most part, the only place plus sized alt girls could go to make some respectable porno.

I am so excited to see this site grow and grow and grow. And hopefully, you’ll be seeing my very first bondage scene on there someday soon.
