California Sucks.
This morning, our Supreme Court decided to uphold Prop 8. As the day goes on I keep getting angrier about it. Sure – I got legally married on November 3rd, 2008 – meaning that my marriage is legal and now safe – however, what’s the point of my marriage being legal if yours can’t be too? They might as well burn up our papers with millions of other gay Americans who don’t have the same privilege as me? In my opinion this is no longer a state-by-state issue. It is a national concern, that voters can take away the rights of minorities with no punishments.
What we saw at City Hall today was disappointing in many ways. It didn’t feel loud enough, it didn’t feel angry enough to me. Have we forgotten the long, messy path of playing rough and fighting dirty? We are the Queers of San Francisco, we are the sons and daughters of Harvey Milk – we should be jumping on police cars, screaming at the top of our lungs, and fighting for what we all deserve: Equal rights in the eyes of our government.
Here’s some photos from this mornings all too peaceful protest and mass arrest.
